MALDI mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is an emerging technology that is being used to visualize the spatial distribution of small molecules, peptides and proteins directly from the surface of a tissue section. Unlike traditional autoradiography or immunochemical imaging, MSI can analyze multiple analytes without the need for labeling, and identification can be obtained using MS/MS.
